Cristina Calheiros is Environmental Engineer and holds a PhD in Biotechnology. She is researcher at CIIMAR, Professor at University of Saint Joseph-Macau SAR/China and University of Porto, and European Climate Pact Ambassador. Her work focuses on the development of nature-based solutions towards sustainability of territories and as tools for climate change adaptation and mitigation, and promotion of ecosystem services. Also dedicates to management and valorization of water through phytotechnologies, such constructed and floating wetlands.
Francisco ARENAS
Francisco Arenas is the team leader of Benthic Ecology and Environmental Solutions group at CIIMAR-UP. His work involves experimental ecology and modeling tools to understand and predict the effects of global changes on coastal populations and ecosystems, from both structural and functional perspectives. More details can be found at https://www.ciimar.up.pt/members/francisco-arenas/
Marina DOLBETH
Marina Dolbeth is an Assistant Researcher at CIIMAR-UP. Her work focuses on the structure and functioning of aquatic ecosystems under natural, anthropogenic and climatic changes. She has worked with benthic communities to understand the consequences of changing diversity on the functioning of coastal ecosystems and how this information can inform environmental management decisions. Currently, she works with habitat-forming species as nature-based solutions to climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as Ocean literacy initiatives. Adetunji Ojediran
Brief: Adetunji Ojediran is a PhD student at CIIMAR researching advanced constructed wetlands for the treatment and reuse of wastewater in tourism units. His work integrates microbial fuel cells, carbon sequestration, and circular resource recovery into nature-based solutions aimed at enhancing sustainability and climate resilience. He holds dual Master’s degrees in Chemical Process Engineering (Université de Lorraine, France) and in Environmental Protection Technologies (Slovak Technical Univesity, Bratislava, Slovakia).
Catarina Teixeira
Catarina Teixeira is a Researcher at CIIMAR-UP. She holds a Bsc in Aquatic Sciences, a MSc in
Environmental Engineering, and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. Her main research interests
focus on water quality (organic pollutants and nutrients), and the removal of nitrogen
compounds from the aquatic environment and water treatment systems, processes, and
microbial communities.
