A workshop was held on February 16, 2026, at the wastewater treatment plant in Zenin, Giza, Egypt, as part of the dissemination of the CIRQUA Project and to foster public dialogue. The event brought together the Egyptian academic partner (Ain Shams University), stakeholders (Giza Holding Company for Water and Wastewater), and local citizens, alongside representatives from nearby mosques, churches, universities, and schools.
The main objective was to explain the pilot prototype of constructed wetlands and filters at the plant. Attendees had the opportunity to see the raw wastewater influent and the final effluent of the prototype, witnessing how the treated wastewater is used to cultivate industrial tomatoes and sustain a small aquaponic tank with fish.
Prof. Soussa gave a short presentation on the different steps of the wastewater treatment process and the upscaling of the plant with these innovative ideas. The event attracted a diverse and wide spectrum of attendees, including the former Minister of Infrastructure, the Director of the Giza Holding Company, the Sheikh of the local mosque, the local priest, the Assistant Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, PhD and Master’s students, citizens, and engineers from the surrounding area, as well as the chemists and engineers of the Zenin plant.
