It’s wonderful to see the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (https://lnkd.in/ehs8efKR )awarded to the pioneers of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs)! A monumental recognition for a field that is set to change our world.
This news is especially exciting for us involved in the CIRQUA Water, as this Nobel-winning technology is at the very heart of our mission.
In CIRQUA, we are leveraging MOFs and their composites (MOFCs) to tackle two of the Mediterranean’s most pressing challenges: water scarcity and soil fertility. We are:
💧 Engineering innovative nanostructured filters using MOFCs. These advanced materials are designed to purify wastewater by removing challenging micropollutants, heavy metals, micro-plastics, and pathogens, enhancing water reuse for agriculture.
🌱 Creating novel nano-fertilizers by transforming excess biomass from constructed wetlands (CWs) and agriculture into biomass-based MOFCs. These will serve as low-cost, slow-release fertilizers to improve soil fertility and support sustainable agriculture.
This Nobel Prize is a powerful validation of the science we are applying. It highlights the transformative potential of using advanced materials to build a true circular economy—turning waste streams into valuable resources for clean water and sustainable food production.
A huge congratulations to the laureates! This recognition fuels our commitment to bringing this game-changing chemistry from the lab to the field across the Mediterranean.
